space activation program
VURT Creative's Space Activation Program transforms unoccupied spaces into immersive artistic experiences. We partner with property owners to provide local artists with temporary studios, exhibition spaces, or pop-up markets. Our team works with artists to create site-specific work, increasing foot traffic and showcasing the space's potential. A 501(c)3 organization, we handle logistics, insurance, and utilities, requiring a minimum 2-month commitment.
The Doomiverse: 1010 Spring Garden St.
In September of 2021, VURT Creative obtained a short term lease with Arts & Crafts Holding to activate a 10,000 square foot warehouse space located at 1010 Spring Garden St. In three weeks, VURT’s small team transformed this space into The Doomiverse, the brainchild of Philadelphia artist Sea of Doom.
Sea of Doom hosted a one night, immersive art opening at this space on October 22nd, 2021, inviting guest to take an actual step into her vast, imaginative brain space. This proof of concept from the VURT team led to a year’s long relationship with both Arts & Crafts Holding and the space at 1010 Market St., which was later transformed into a month art market called the Spring Arts Market.
The Spring Arts Market: 1010 Spring Garden St.
VURT Creative and Arts & Crafts Holding continued their partnership with the 1010 Spring Garden St. warehouse space by hosting a monthly art market in the space. The space was donated by Arts & Crafts Holding and VURT managed the curation and management of the Spring Arts Market.
On the second Saturday of each month, the Spring Arts market would take place, hosting a rotating roster of 30 local vendors selling art, vintage clothing, and self made wares. A new mural was painted in the space each month, and additional installations were added for special occasions. It was a place to celebrate our city’s creators and small businesses. Entry was always free and all were welcomed and encouraged to attend.
This market ran from October 2023 to October of 2024.
Local Critters
Philadelphia is home to over 1.5 million people. Going about our busy days, we often overlook the animals that also call this city home. "Local Critters" is a series of murals celebrating these animals. We chose to paint Philly's small creatures at a larger than life scale, using the juxtaposition in size as a playful way to raise awareness of their presence in our environment.

Fabric of the Community
Camden, NJ
Over the summer of 2019, we took part in beautifying a new playground at Washington Park, in Camden, New Jersey. We chose a classic blanket pattern motif as our design, with the hope that the familiar shapes would promote a feeling of comfort and safety for all who enjoy the playground.
“A year ago, families in this neighborhood didn’t feel safe bringing their kids here, but today they get a state-of-the-art space to play, relax, and come together as a community,” said Freeholder Jeff Nash, liaison to the Camden County Park System. “The Freeholder Board made this investment because we know full well the role that parks and shared spaces play in raising the quality of life throughout the entire neighborhood.”
