GLOSSBLACK

ARTIST

James McMenamin is an artist, born and raised in New Jersey. In 2008, he created Glossblack, LLC as a way to offer his artistic skills to everyone; business owners, homeowners, corporations, etc. The demand for his mural work began to surpass his expectations, creating a buzz among Philadelphians. By 2016, he walked away from a career in the sciences to pursue art full-time and never looked back.

James genuinely wants to gift the world his authentic visions in hope of inspiring others to do the same.

Today, he can be found in his studio creating sculptural artwork inspired by his newly awakened passion for symbolism and spirituality. His passion for life is expansive, encompassing all things art, texture, literature, natural science, nature, sacred geometry, consciousness and metaphysics. When he’s not in the studio, he most enjoys spending time outdoors with his incredible wife & their three beautiful children.

James has been involved with VURT since 2017.

SEA OF DOOM

ARTIST

Sea of Doom is the work of Kristin Scholz, a multidisciplinary visual artist working in paint, stained glass, and fiber. Raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Kristin grew up immersed in nature, mythological creatures, and her vivid inner world. Her work is bold and graphic, drawing from the physical landscape around her and the chaotic visual language of punk music and street art, filtered through an expansive imagination and her distinct personal style. Kristin earned her BFA in Illustration from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore in 2005.

At the core of her work are things truly important to her: the innate power of the feminine persona, the symbolism and intricacies of the natural world, and above all, the vast absurdity of her own imagination. Her work presents a personal mythology, populated by recurring symbols and characters, blending narrative, intuition, lived experience and reflection into imagery that feels impactful and mysterious, leaving the viewer hungry for more.

Kristin has been working with VURT on a number of projects since 2018.
